The pop girls are taking over the VMAs, and of course, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan are two of the women leading the charge. Both pop stars are up for big awards tonight, so obviously, they showed up in style. While the Short 'n Sweet artist went glamorous Old Hollywood pop princess with her look, and I’m obsessed, it's the "Hot To Go!" singer's Medieval ensemble that I can't get over.

Overall, though, in the lead-up to the VMAs airing live on the 2024 TV schedule , the two pop gals walked the black carpet in fashion, and let’s just say they were both giving Short ‘n Sweet and "Femininomenon!" So, let’s break these looks down!

Sabrina Carpenter Gave Old Hollywood Glamour At The 2024 VMAs

Sabrina Carpenter rocked a glamorous white floor-length gown that fits in with other red carpet looks she’s rocked recently – like the sparkling golden chain mail dress she wore to Variety’s 2024 Power of Young Hollywood Party. That mixed with her curled voluminous blonde hair and bold red lip created a look that screams Old Hollywood, take a look:

The gown is vintage Bob Mackie from 1991, and Madonna wore it to perform at the Oscars, Vogue reported. Coming from Tab Vintage, its owner Alexis Novak explained the gown was inspired by Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Marilyn Monroe’s, and you can totally feel that in Carpenter’s look!

Considering Carpenter has had two hits with “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please,” and her music video for “Taste” was an instant hit, this Old Hollywood pop princess look is perfect for her.

Chappell Roan Threw It Back Even Further With Her Medieval Sheer Outfit

Meanwhile, Chappell Roan also brought her style A-game, as she took inspiration from an even older time, and came in a fully Medieval fit that featured a cloak, sword and rug, take a look:

At the base of the outfit is a gorgeous flowing fully sheer brown dress with a plunging neckline from Y/Project, per People . She complimented that with a giant cross necklace, Renaissance curls and ribbons in her hair, her signature makeup, thigh-high boots, long metallic nails, a green cloak and – yes this is all true, you can see it above – a sword, rug and man dressed like a warrior who was standing behind her.

The "Pink Pony Club" singer explained during the VMA pre-show that the robe she was wearing was 300 years old, and the rug she brought was 600 years old. She also said we should "take notes" about her outfit too, which makes me even more intrigued, because I just know this is part of a bigger performance the pop star has put together.

So, yeah, I can't stop thinking about this fabulous sheer outfit!

Overall, both women looked stunning, and their different and bold ensembles encapsulated their styles perfectly! Now, it’s time to give them the flowers they deserve, as they’ve had incredible years with their music.

Sabrina Carpenter was nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Pop, Song of the Year and Best Editing for “Espresso,” and Song of the Summer, Best Direction and Best Art Direction “Please, Please, Please.” Meanwhile, Chappell Roan is up for Best New Artist and she had MTV’s Push Performance Of The Year for March.

So, yeah, it’s their night to get dressed up, rock the red carpet and slay the stage during their performances.
