In spite of temperatures that reached 92 degrees with a Heat Index of 99 degrees, the residents of Circleville came to Ted Lewis Park in numbers Tuesday, Aug. 6, to participate in National Night Out, a nationwide celebration of police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

‘It’s so good to see the community come together, the kids have a good time, neighbors come out … it’s just a great day!” said Stacia Bauman, Vice-President of the Circleville Junior Women’s League and Chaplain at the Eagles Lodge.

There were free hot dogs and free bottles of water, thankfully chilled in a cooler of ice. There were bounce houses for the kids, police and fire equipment on display, a helicopter from the Air Evac Lifeteam also on display, and a simulated field sobriety test for the adults.

“What we’re doing here is called the ‘walk & turn,’ said Police Officer Tyler Hopkins. “We’re showing people the effects of alcohol on people who drink. The special glasses blur your vision and make things seem out of place.”

While some communities may want to defund their police, Circleville residents want to have fun with their police … and firefighters, too!
