While the DuPont Company announced the closing of its Tedlar production unit on Thursday, Sept. 5, there are other product lines that will continue operating which will keep the DuPont Circleville facility open. Prior to the shutdown of the Tedlar line, there were approximately 500 employees at DuPont Circleville.

DuPont Corporate Public Relations has not released information about how many employees will be affected.

DuPont stated the decision came as a result of a strategic review of the DuPont Tedlar photovoltaics business and a thorough assessment of its manufacturing footprint including its order forecasts, network capabilities and capital investment needs.

DuPont introduced Tedlar PVF film for commercial use in 1961. It is a protective film that has many uses, including protecting building exteriors against even the most extreme elements.

Employees of the Tedlar unit at Circleville will receive severance benefits and other support to help them pursue new job opportunities, including being eligible to apply for other positions in DuPont.

On May 6, 2022, DuPont held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of its $250 Million expansion of its Kapton and Pyralux production lines. Additionally, DuPont manufactures Vespel film at DuPont Circleville.

Kapton polyimide films provide a unique combination of electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties that withstand extreme temperature, vibration and other demanding environments.

DuPont opened the Circleville plant in 1953 to make Mylar film, which is used in packaging. Mylar is no longer in DuPont’s product portfolio.
