Arbor Day

The Circleville Tree Commission and the Circleville High School chapter of Future Farmers of America planted 40 trees Friday at Ted Lewis Park and along North Court Street.

The trees on North Court Street were planted where some diseased trees were recently removed near Forest Cemetery.

The Tree Commission is striving to maintain and revitalize the tree canopy in our community.

Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day or Arbor and Bird Day observance.

National Arbor Day is celebrated every year on the last Friday in April.

The customary observance is to plant a tree. On the first Arbor Day, April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted.

The Circleville Tree Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at City Council Chambers.

The public, and potential volunteers, are welcome.
