It’s always nice when a Circleville resident steps forward with a plan to benefit the city, and Tracy Vangundy fits nicely into that mold. She has brought back a Farmer’s Market to Downtown Circleville. The plan is to have one every month — from May to September — on the Second Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the vacant lot at 144 East Main Street.

“I just decided that we were going to bring the Farmer’s Market back in the Circleville. I felt like there was a need in the community for it — to bring back the local flavor of our community,” said Vangundy. “The day started out raining and cold. I’m very impressed how many people are here — it’s been a really great crowd today.”

She noted that there were many events in Downtown Circleville this past Saturday morning. In addition to the Farmer’s Market, the Chamber was sponsoring the Uptown Chocolate Walk, the Ted Lewis Museum was open, and a new business, Pound Fitness, was having their grand opening.

Fortunately for the vendors, the weather steadily improved all day, and by Noon the sun was peeking through the clouds. In addition to Tracy Vangundy, who brought her laser engraved artwork, there were a dozen other vendors selling fresh food and arts and crafts.

Edna May Berkey, the owner of PB and Jammy Glass, brought her hand blown glass flowers to sell, and also to spread the word about her venue where classes in glass blowing are provided . She hosted a class on Mother’s Day so that moms and their families ildren could make glass art together.

Erica Maxson, the owner of Windy Chicks, brought fresh chicken and quail eggs for sale. She also displayed woodwork and potted plants known as “Hens and Chicks.” Erica also brought her three children to help, Tinley, Darby and Kyla.

The space for the Farmer’s Market was provided by Tony and Crystal Moody, owners of the lot at 144 East Main and also of the Zwicker House, an event space for weddings or any other gathering.

For those who want to participate in the June Farmer’s Market, contact Tracy Vangundy at palepumpkin@yahoo.com. The cost to rent a space for a booth $10.
