Logan Elm High School’s Class of 2024 celebrated commencement Friday at the Braves’ stadium. Family, friends and the community came out to honor the seniors. A short video featuring photos from the Braves’ commencement service appears on the Circleville Herald’s Facebook page. More about this ceremony will appear in Saturday’s special graduation edition.

A few takeaways — Class Valedictorian Samuel Braun offered high praise to Class Salutatorian Carson Summers. During their speeches, Braun and Summers shared advice with their classmates. Braun talked about the movie Penguins of Madagascar and how these brave penguins question everything and overcome challenges on their adventures. Summers began his speech by thanking the folks who made a difference in his life, then offering a few lines from Scripture — Romans chapter 6, verse 23 — before talking about how to live a good life that is filled with great memories.

Principal Nate Smith offered another amazing speech that will be published in its entirety in next Saturday’s edition. He talked about the importance of staying in the right lane, paying attention to those blinkers.

“The world can be exhausting, but you can conserve your energy by recognizing your lane and focusing your energy on the lane you are in,” he said. Identify and solve problems in that lane. Our world needs problem solvers, not problem finders. Work out the problems that are in your lane. Bad things happen when you try and work on problems outside of your lane.”

Smith continued, “For example, if the power goes out at night, I can definitely tell the power’s out, but I have zero business climbing the pole and trying to figure out the problem, or worse, critique the line worker trying to do that job. That’s their job. Even though Emily (wife) at times might encourage me to go grab a power line and see what happens, it’s not my lane. I must focus on what I need to do for my family at that time. That’s my lane. Your lanes will change throughout your life. Trust me. Your twenties’ lane is vastly different than your forties lane. Your lanes are going to be different whether you’re at work, home, or in your community.”

Smith concluded his inspiring speech by telling the seniors to always do the right thing, to always be a Brave.

“Lastly, we have set many goals for you over the years ranging from test scores to grades to behavior to contests, you name it,” he said. “But our most important goal for you has always been for you to be good people. You will continue to be good people because of the spirit that is within each of you, and you will be known as good people throughout your life by the love that you spread and the love that you give to everyone around you.”

Smith continued, “Class of 2024, we truly wish you the best in everything you do. Enjoy today, but do not let today become your peak. Good luck. Remember to always do the right thing no matter what, and always be Brave.”
