Albuquerque city councilors are expected to continue a debate Monday over how much publicly funded campaign money future council candidates should get.

At the last two meetings, the City Council deferred a proposal, sponsored by Councilor Joaquín Baca, that would clean up campaign finance sections of the city’s charter.

Council candidates currently receive $1 per registered voter in the district they’re running in. Mayoral candidates receive $1.75 per registered voter in the entire city. The proposal would increase the amounts by $0.25.

    AI policy working group

A resolution to convene a group of experts from city departments to create an AI policy was also deferred on Oct. 7 and will return Monday.

The resolution, sponsored by Councilors Tammy Fiebelkorn and Dan Champine, states that an AI policy would protect against the misuse of the technology.

    Apprenticeship empowerment

Another proposal on the agenda would require a certain number of apprenticeships for contracted city construction projects.

The Apprenticeship Empowerment Ordinance, also sponsored by Fiebelkorn and Champine, would require contractors for construction projects that cost more than $1 million to dedicate 15% of a job’s labor hours to apprenticeships.
