Kases for Kids Donation Event Coming Up
The Crescenta Valley Lions Club is collecting backpacks for foster children at its annual Kases for Kids event alongside Los Angeles Dept. of Children and Family Services. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 24, the Lions will collect backpacks that will be filled with toys and practical supplies and given to foster children. This year, the Lions hope to give away 250 packs. The Kases for Kids donation event will take place at the Ralph’s parking lot on Foothill Boulevard and Raymond Avenue.
Poets Rick Smith, Carol V. Davis Headline at Village Poets

POLA Achieves Best July in 116 Years; TEU Volume Hits 939,600
Records were in the cards in July, for volumes respectively issued this week by the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB). POLA reported that total July volume, at 939,600 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), increased 37% annually and 14% sequentially, marking the port’s best July in its 116-year history, as well as its highest-volume month in more than two years. What’s more, when compared to its running five-year average for July, last month was up 10%.
