Houston Area Philanthropist Seeks Court Order to Identify YouTube Group Behind Alleged Defamation

(HOUSTON, TEXAS) June 12, 2024 – According to court documents, a prominent Vietnamese businessman has filed a petition in Harris County District Court (Case No. 202437163-7) for expedited discovery to identify individuals defaming him on YouTube.

The petitioner, a well-known philanthropist, alleges ongoing defamation and threats by a group operating five YouTube channels with around 25,000 subscribers. Despite sending multiple cease and desist letters, the harassment continued, including a recent video threatening gun violence if the petitioner does not pay $300,000.

The petition requests court approval to depose YouTube's Custodian of Records and obtain documents to identify the harassers. The case emphasizes the challenges of addressing online defamation and seeks to prevent evidence destruction.
