12-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Houston Bayou Very Close to Home

HOUSTON, Texas (June 17, 2024) - According to the Houston Police Department, a 12-year-old girl was found deceased in shallow water near 400 West Rankin Road in Houston's North Belt area. The incident was reported around 6 a.m. this morning by a citizen who called 911.

Authorities believe the girl had sneaked out of her residence the previous night sometime around 10 p.m. The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, along with their dive team and the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, were involved in recovering the body. The Medical Examiner's Office is working on the official identification of the victim.

Police noted that the girl was found within a walkable distance from home and was not yet reported missing.

Houston Mayor and police officials have asked the public for assistance in finding the perpetrator of this crime. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
