Man Sues Hotel Derek and Management for Negligence Following Violent Robbery

    2024-07-19

HOUSTON, Texas, July 16, 2024 — According to court documents from the Harris County District Court (Case №. 2024–43702, Court: 334), a man has filed a lawsuit against LEI AG-West Loop, LLC, formerly known as Hotel Derek, and Lowe Enterprises Investment Management, alleging negligence after a violent robbery left him injured.

Back in July 2022, the man, a guest at Hotel Derek, was attacked and shot by armed assailants in the hotel’s valet parking area. The robbers demanded his valuables, and he was shot in the left hand before seeking refuge inside the hotel lobby. Despite the hotel’s previous knowledge of high crime rates and violent incidents in the Galleria area, including several involving hotel guests, the man claims the hotel failed to provide adequate security measures.

The lawsuit details numerous incidents of violent crime in the area, highlighting that the hotel should know about these risks. The man alleges that the hotel’s negligence in providing a safe environment led to his injuries and subsequent distress.

The plaintiff is seeking $250,000 in damages for his physical injuries, pain and suffering, and mental anguish. The suit also includes claims for vicarious liability and gross negligence, aiming to hold the hotel and its management accountable for their failure to address known security risks.
