Cinemark is celebrating its 40th year by celebrating with moviegoers. Starting tomorrow from August 12-18, you can see some of your favorite movies from 1984. The celebration begins with The Karate Kid and ends with Footloose, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

While 1984 was a special year for movie fans, it was a special year for me because my daughter was born that year.

The only drawback for Kansas Citians is there's only one Cinemark Theatre in the Kansas City Metropolitan area which is Cinemark Merriam and XD located at 5500 Antioch Drive in Merriam, Kansas.

We’re bringing all the raddest classics from 1984 back to the big screen for a week of pure retro vibes—and celebrating the year Cinemark first opened! (Source.)

At Cinemark Merriam, you can see any of the below-listed movies for just $5. In an age where going to the movies is expensive (especially when you hit the concession stand), this special rate helps to celebrate Cinemark’s history, offer you some nostalgia, and save you some bucks.

The Big in ’84 Cinemark 40th Anniversary Series highlights some of the most notable films from that era. You can also order your tickets now.

Who can forget some of the memorable lines from the above movies?

    • The Karate Kid: "Wax on, wax off."
    • The Terminator: "I'll be back."
    • Gremlins: "...never, ever feed him after midnight."
    • Purple Rain: "I'd like to dedicate this to my father, Francis L."
    • Ghostbusters: "Who you gonna call?"
    • A Nightmare on Elm Street: "Every town has an Elm Street."
    • The Last Starfighter: "I'm not here for cigarettes or bubble gum, my boy."
    • Footloose: "Let's Dance!"
    • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: "Indiana Jones. Always knew someday you’d come walking back through my door."

Visit here to view the full Cinemark theatre listing in the U.S. to see if one of these theatres is near your U.S. location and whether its participating with this event.
