Whether you're looking for a place to have breakfast before work, or somewhere to take your family on the weekends, the restaurants below offer an affordable meal.

With what seems to be the never-ending cost of food, naturally, that cost hits restaurants too. These five restaurants were given a 4.0 and above rating on Tripadvisor.

Don't judge a restaurant by its exterior. Portia's Cafe is located at 3840 East Truman Road in Kansas City. It's family-run and has been operating for over 40 years which says a lot.

...Best place for breakfast and the staff was truly hospitable and super nice... When we told the waitress that we were from out of state and that this was our first time here, she was shocked and wanted to know how we found out about them. Everything is made from scratch and prepared fresh...When word got around that we were from Texas, the cook, Lisa, came and talked to us. (Source.)

Breakfast includes omelet options, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and French toast.

    City Diner

City Diner is located at 301 Grand Boulevard in Kansas City. It's close to the River Market area and open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Overall, food, service, and value received positive reviews. Visit here to order online for carry-out or delivery. City Diner's breakfast sandwich includes your choice of a half-order of bacon, Italian sausage, or ham on your choice of bread with two eggs for $7.95.

This diner also serves large pancakes, biscuits and gravy, french toast, and other standard breakfast options.

Jerry's Cafe is located at 1209 West 103rd Street in Kansas City. This restaurant is known for its large portions. It was established in 2010 and sold to its current owner, Nick DeFeo in 2015.

I didn't really have a problem with anything about this venue, it was not anything spectacular either though. I definitely got the feel of a "Mom & Pop" neighborhood diner, which I appreciated. (Source.)

Jerry's Cafe is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Fridays through Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm.

Los Alamos Cocina is at 1667 Summit Street in Kansas City. Here, the breakfast chorizo burrito appears to be a favorite.
