The original Bing was introduced over a century ago by the Palmer Candy Company. Generations of family ownership have built this company since 1878, and it's one of the oldest family-owned candy companies in the U.S.

When Edward Cook "E.C." Palmer's home burned in Michigan, he and his family moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1878, where he acquired a wholesale grocery operation.

In 1892, Palmer and Company was formed by E.C. and his oldest son, William. It was a fruit company. Later, they decided to develop a candy business. By 1900, they moved into a four-story building. Their company prospered during the 1920s.

I loved the fact you could find older candies from when you were a kid. The signature "Twin Bings" I had never heard of were in several flavors and all of them very good! Worth a stop! (Tripadvisor reviewer from California.)

In 1923, the Bing candy bar was developed in maple, vanilla, pineapple, and cherry flavors. The Cherry Bing is still a favorite and it's still made by hand.

Through acquisitions, the Palmer Company continued to grow. To focus more on their candy business, they closed the fruit business in 1969. Visit here to see their candy selections.

The Twin Bing is two round and chewy cherry-flavored nougats that have been coated with chocolate and chopped peanuts. It was introduced in the 1960s. It's yummy. Individual Bings are also made.

The Palmer's Olde Tyme Candy Shoppe is located at 405 Wesley Parkway in Sioux City, Iowa. It's open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
