    Local tribes to host ‘State of the BIPOC’ meeting

    The Rushmere Community Development Corporation and Warraskoyack and Quiyoughcohannock tribes will host a virtual “State of the BIPOC” town hall meeting.

    BIPOC is an acronym for Black, indigenous and people of color. The event is being held via Zoom on June 18 at 6 p.m. in honor of Juneteenth, the June 19 state holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

    According to Chief Rosa Holmes Turner, the RCDC, which does business as the Mathomank Village Tribe, will report on the strides being made through the Hughes Heritage and Waterman Conservation Project, and the ports and communities data collection process.

    Invited guests include tribe fmembers, the Indian Advisory Council of Virginia, Tribal Band Cohort members, local, state and federal agency representatives, foundations, interfaith partners, colleges and universities, community stakeholders and future donors.
