(New Market) -- An Independence Day celebration unlike any other returns this week in New Market. The New Market 4th of July Celebration ramps up into full gear beginning Wednesday afternoon with a long list of events, including a pitch and cribbage tournament at 1:30 p.m. at the community building and pie judging at the Miner Pavilion at 2 p.m. Later in the evening, there is also a sand volleyball tournament, pie auction, and draft horse pull at the park. New Iowa THC Law Set To Go In Place Today Regarding Potency Levels

Missouri River flood impacts southeast Nebraska after overnight rain
Eastern Nebraska received several inches of rain Monday night and Tuesday morning, causing floods in the Lincoln and Omaha metro areas. According to the National Weather Service, 6.77 inches of rain fell in Papillion between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday. Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue received 5.77 inches over the same time span.

Iowa caregiver pleads guilty to stealing thousands from client with disability
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A Council Bluffs caregiver who was scheduled to go on trial this week for financially exploiting a client entered a plea agreement Monday. Theresa Sanchez, 53, pleaded guilty in Pottawattamie County Court to one count of first-degree theft and one count financial exploitation of an older individual. Council Bluffs Police arrested Sanchez in February, accusing her of stealing more than $11,000 from an individual in her care who has intellectual disabilities.
Red Oak council takes no action on fiber project
(Red Oak) -- Despite some concerns over the use of pedestals, Red Oak officials have opted to allow a fiber internet project to continue in the city's right of way. Meeting in regular session Monday night, the Red Oak City Council met with Farmers Mutual Telephone Company CEO Kevin Cabbage to hear an update on the first phase of his company's project that would bring fiber internet to roughly half of Red Oak by the end of the year and to discuss the possible action of temporarily halting the project for utilizing above ground pedestals curbside rather than buried vaults. While they have historically utilized vaults for their projects initiated before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cabbage says price changes over the last four years and the size of the current project in both Red Oak and Clarinda prompted utilizing pedestals.
