The 2012 girls team, the Clark Coyotes; the 2012 boys team, the Clark Thunder; and the 2013 girls team, the Clark Comets, all competed in Middlebush Park in Franklin Township on Saturday, June 15, following their success as MNJYSA Flight 1 winners.
Clark Thunder, under the direction of Head Coach David Amorin, took on the Plainfield Kid Stars. The boys played with a ton of heart and grit, pulling out a 2-2 tie with only seconds to go in regulation time.
An unfortunate handball call in the goalie box, only moments into overtime, gave Plainfield a penalty kick, which the team subsequently made, ending the game, 3-2.
Meanwhile, the Clark Coyotes, coached by Anthony Spagnuolo, playing on an adjacent field at the same time, also suffered a close loss.
Playing the North Plainfield Elite Angels, the girls played tough but came up just short in regulation time, 2-1.
The big winners of the day for Clark were its youngest team, the Comets, under the direction of Head Coach Manny Rodriguez.
The girls took on Princeton FC, battling it out to a 2-2 tie before quickly scoring a goal in overtime to win the championship.
Clark Soccer Club President Anthony Mamola noted that all the teams had great seasons, "winning their respective flights and representing the club well on Championship Saturday."
Congratulations to the Clark Soccer Club, the teams, players, coaches, and families on a job well done! We look forward to covering all your successes next season.
