Health Department board meets Tuesday in Cheboygan
The board that oversees District Health Department No. 4 will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Health Department’s Cheboygan office, 825 S. Huron St., Suite 1. At the meeting, the board is expected to approve new policies related to visitors and weapons at Health Department offices, to make some purchases, and to hear a report from the department’s auditors.

Governor Whitmer Signs Bill Putting Speed Limit On M-185
(Lansing, MI) – M-185 around Mackinac Island now has a speed limit. Governor Whitmer signed a bill to limit bicycles and electric bicycles to 15-miles-an-hour on the highway. The speed limit was needed, according to Whitmer’s office, because electric bicycles can reach 28-miles-an-hour and cause safety hazards for people and horses.
Hoffmann buys Mackinac Island Ferry Company
What's happening: The Hoffmann Family of Companies, a Florida-based private equity firm, has acquired the Mackinac Island Ferry Company. This is the latest move by both Hoffman and the Mackinac Island service to consolidate ferry ownership in the Straits. Hoffmann previously purchased Shepler’s Ferry and the Sip N’ Sail Cruises; the Mackinac Island Ferry Company rebranded its Star Line brand to include other freight ferries and land parcels relevant to safe transportation. Hoffman Marine, which operates a number of maritime companies across seven states, now has 46 total vessels in its fleet.
