RAPID RIVER — Ann Helen Scizak passed away peacefully in her home on July 1, 2024 following a brief battle with cancer. Ann was born on October 22, 1947 to Leslie and Eudene MacDonald and grew up in St. Ignace, Michigan. Ann graduated from LaSelle High School in St. Ignace in 1965 where she was a cheerleader and the homecoming queen. Her classmates described her as the sweetest and sharpest girl in the class.
Travelers can now enjoy round trip service from the U.P. to Chicago
KINROSS — You can now enjoy round trip air service from Kinross Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD), the fourth busiest airport in the nation. CIU now serves three major hubs for connecting flights including Detroit and Minneapolis. Boutique Air is a commuter airline that offers charter and scheduled passenger services. Their first flight arrived from O’Hare on Sunday with six passengers. The aircraft holds up to eight. Airport manager Tami Beaseau said that those passengers were tourists.

U.S.-based family-owned private equity firm the Hoffmann Family of Companies (HF Companies) announced it has acquired Mackinac Island Ferry Company in Michigan. Jenny Gezella, President of Hoffmann Marine, said, “We are thrilled to acquire the Mackinac Island Ferry Company, further expanding our presence in the Mackinac community and marine industry. Our commitment to providing first-class, efficient transportation remains steadfast, and we look forward to continuing to serve both residents and visitors to this special island.”
