CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Albany County Sheriff’s Office identified the body found at Mirror Lake on July 4 as James Bitner, 56, of Blackhawk, Colorado. Deputies received a report of a deceased individual near Mirror Lake around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they confirmed the presence of a deceased person, initially referred to as “John Doe.”

Powell hosts the 2024 Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘A’ State Tournament from July 27-31. It is an eight-team, modified, double-elimination bracket. The Powell Pioneers are the defending Class A State Champions. It was their first championship since 2010. Six of the eight teams were in last year’s field. Several industry groups are challenging a new rule from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) that puts conservation on equal footing with other uses on agency-managed lands. Traditionally, companies have sought leases for various uses on BLM’s 245 million acres, including mining, logging, grazing, oil and gas drilling and recreation. Now, under the new Public Lands Rule which went into effect in June, parties can also apply for leases to do “restoration” or “mitigation” work.
