Coile Middle School principal announces resignation
Dr. Beverly L. Ford, principal of Coile Middle School, submitted her resignation, effective immediately. Ford has spent 18 years working for the Clarke County School District, as a teacher, a specialist in special education behavior and then in administrative positions at the elementary and middle school levels. She spent the last four years as the principal of Coile Middle School.

The Star Spangled Classic was held at Southeast Clarke Park on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The event had a stage, where the Original Splitz band performed, food vendors and attractions and a firework show at the end. Athens-Clarke County Leisure Service Department hosted the annual event.

This is Athens News Matters. I'm Alexia Ridley. Nearly 400 people in Athens, Clarke County, face homelessness, according to the annual Point-in-Time report completed by the local government. The Athens Homeless Coalition was established in early 2024 and seeks to prevent and end homelessness in the area. It recently named Michael Bien as its first executive director. Athens-Clarke County Joins Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) and Mayor Kelly Girtz have been selected to participate in the prestigious Bloomberg Philanthropies City Data Alliance. This initiative brings together 23 mayors from across North America, South America, and the Caribbean, including cities like Tampa, FL; Green Bay, WI; and Ottawa, Canada, among others. The alliance, now spanning 65 cities across 12 countries, aims to enhance government services through data-driven policies.
