A Morning Treat: Plans Pie for Breakfast event

CLARKS SUMMIT — People who come to the Servant Church’s Fellowship Hall on Saturday, March 16, are in for a real treat.

That’s when the Abington Christian Academy will have its 10th annual Pie for Breakfast event. Parents, teachers and some of the older students will continue to participate by either bringing in a large variety of pies, quiches, and casseroles or helping to set up the event. Jan Wells, who recently became principal of Abington Christian Academy, will be serving pie. There will be a section of dishes that are gluten-free and sugar-free. Pre-K teacher Cheryl Hosterman brings her gluten-free butterscotch pie every year.

All of the treats are different whether they are traditional such as fruit pies or non-traditional as root beer pies or egg nog pies. They all have one thing in common. They are all homemade.

“It’s an outreach to the community, said Tammy Rodriguez, office manager and director of operations at Abington Christian Academy. “People, who come from different areas, travel to just to enjoy the pie.”

The event is pay-one-price and all-you-can-eat. Beverages such as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are also provided. Families and local businesses will bring raffle baskets with gift cards and merchandise, which will raise funds for the school as well. Games and coloring books will provide fun for the children.

“It’s a great community event,” said Tammy.
