Abington Heights, Lackawanna Trail and Scranton Prep have a combined 17 players on the rosters for the Scranton Lions Club Dream Game July 17, making them three of the six most-represented teams in the all-star game for recent graduates of the Lackawanna Football Conference.
The game, presented by Northeast Rehab, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Valley View’s John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium in Peckville.
Abington Heights has five players on the County team, more than all but the eight from host Valley View and seven from Riverside. The team will be coached by Riverside’s Harry Armstrong and also includes players from Carbondale, Delaware Valley, Honesdale, Lakeland, Mid Valley, Old Forge and Western Wayne.
Lackawanna Trail and Scranton Prep each have six players on the City roster. Coach Kevin McHale has nine of his Dunmore players on the team, making the Bucks the only team with more representatives than the Lions and the Cavaliers. The rest of the City roster is made up of players from Holy Cross, North Pocono, Scranton, Scranton Prep, Wallenpaupack and West Scranton.
The Abington Heights players are wide receiver/defensive backs Kevin Schmidt and Mason Fedor, running back Anthony Curro, offensive lineman J.J. Gorrick and defensive lineman Drake Jackson.
Lackawanna Trail’s team, which posted an unbeaten regular season and won both LFC Division 3 and District 2 Class A titles, is represented by: two-way tackle Alex Castellano, running back/outside linebacker Lukas Gumble, quarterback Stephen Jervis, fullback/inside linebacker Hunter Patterson, cornerback Cole Rosengrant and linebacker Kolbee Soltis.
Two-way linemen Nyeem Gonzalez and Cameron Palermo, receiver/defensive back Liam Barrett, running back/linebacker/safety Quinten Palermo, fullback/defensive lineman Max Shnipes and tight end/linebacker Andrew Summa are the players from Scranton Prep’s District 2 Class 3A champion.
