CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Hundreds of veterans got their questions answered and the help they needed on Thursday at the second annual Veterans Seminar and VetFest at the Nathan Goff Armory in Clarksburg.

The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center and the VA Huntington Regional Office partnered up to bring different veteran services including the Disabled Veterans non-profit. This allowed it to be a “one-stop-shop” for veterans and their families.

“Suicide prevention, enrolling in health care, they’re doing toxins screenings. So today our goal is to get them sign up for benefits, if they need benefit assistance to take care of them, as well as we make sure we take care of their health as well,” said Danny Henry, a coach at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Huntington Regional office.

Air Force veteran Elicia Lynn—who served for 12 years as a civil engineer—said that the transition from military life to a civilian one is difficult and events like these are encouraging.

”It’s very, very reassuring, it makes you feel like somebody cares…The vets are somebody that could be just one hair from homeless anytime,” Lynn said. “You just don’t recover sometimes from getting out.”

Organizers said they are hoping to bring this event back next year, with a date yet to be announced.
