    North central West Virginia festivals to look forward to in August

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Looking for something to do in north central West Virginia this August? Here’s a list of some of the best festivals happening in the area.

    Lurch Fest in Philippi – August 3

    The annual celebration of Philippi native Ted Cassidy and Lurch, the Addams Family characters he is best known for portraying, will be held from noon until dark on Aug. 3. The free event will include Lurch merch, live music, costume contests, food, craft beer and more on Museum Street in Philippi. For more details, check out the festival on social media .

    Shindy Music Festival in Shinnston – August 3

    Bring a lawn chair for this day-long music festival in Shinnston. Festival goers can enjoy live entertainment from noon until 10 p.m. at Ferguson Memorial Park or pay $6 to swim in the Shinnston City Pool. More than 15 vendors and food trucks will be set up during the event.

    Lewis County Bluegrass Festival in Annamede – August 16-17

    Tickets are now available for this two-day music event near Walkersville in Lewis County. The event is at the historic Annamede mansion propertry, with designated areas for performances, vendors and camping. Tickets are $30 per day or $50 for the weekend.     Mountain Spirit Pow Wow At Mason Dixon Park in Mt. Morris/Core – August 24-25

    This annual event celebrates Native American culture at the border of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The family-friendly event has been held regularly since 1998. This year, it will be on Aug. 24-25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $5, but it’s free for children five and under.

    West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival in Clarksburg – August 30-September 1

    From pepperoni rolls to peppers, Clarksburg will celebrate West Virginia’s Italian heritage the last week of August. Parades, live music, a pasta cookoff, a meatball eating contest are just a few of the things to look forward to. An expected 30,000 people are expected to attend. There are also several events leading up tp the festival, including Fritti Sunday, which is the third Sunday of every month. For more information, check out the festival website .

    If you’re willing to travel outside of the north central region of the state, here are a few other niche festivals that are happening across the state.

    West Virginia Cupcake Festival in Hurricane – August 22-24

    One of sweetest festivals happening in August is the West Virginia Cupcake Festival in Putnam County. The festival has continued to expand over the past 10 years and will include races where runner decorate cupcakes at stops along the way, pageants, cupcake competitions and lots of vendors.     West Virginia Sunflower Festival in Alderson – August 31

    Located at Sunset Berry Farm, the Sunflower Festival is being held on two Saturdays in 2024—Aug. 31 and Sept. 7—while the sunflowers are in bloom.
