CLARKSVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Clarksville man has been arrested in connection with an April fatal crash that killed his girlfriend, according to court documents.
Daniel Havens Jr., 31, was arrested on August 1 on a manslaughter charge.
According to an affidavit, an Arkansas State Police trooper responded to a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 352 in Clarksville around 9:30 p.m. on April 13.
A crash report said Havens’ vehicle drove off the roadway on a curve and hit two street signs and a concrete culvert before overturning and striking a tree.
Once on the scene, the trooper found an upside-down vehicle off the roadway on the south side of the highway.
The driver, identified as Havens, reportedly spoke incoherently to the trooper and said there was no one else in the vehicle with him.
The trooper along with other first responders on the scene found a woman’s body underneath the vehicle. The woman was identified as Haven’s girlfriend, Makayla Prince, 24.
The affidavit said the trooper found an open beer can near the vehicle and he later filed a warrant for a blood test for Havens.
Havens was taken to a Little Rock hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
A blood sample was submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for testing and a toxicology report showed Havens was under the influence of ketamine and fentanyl at the time of the crash, the affidavit said.
Havens is set to appear in court on September 18.
