CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — As he sorted through the rubble of what was once his home, David Dickerson found his son’s baby pictures.

“We always loved each other,” Dickerson said. “He was a cool, happy kid. He was always smiling — every time you’d see him.”

Eighteen-year-old Davion Henry was there when the Dickersons’ Clarksville home went up in flames. Dickerson rushed to the hospital after first responders took his son away in an ambulance. Davion’s mother, Franshasta Henry, was also by his side.

“I received a call saying that my house was on fire. That’s when they told me someone could have possibly been in the house,” Dickerson said. “The only person that could have possibly been in the house was my older son.”

Davion died on Wednesday. This was the first time that Franshasta had seen the site of the home since the blaze.

“I don’t think this is something that I can heal from, honestly,” Franshasta said. “That was my baby.”

His parents told News 2 that Davion was a bright young man with a long life ahead of him.

“He’s not even going to get to grow up,” Franshasta said. “He was so young.”

“He had just recently graduated. He was going really good,” Dickerson said. “It’s just unfortunate, the whole situation. I never expected nothing like this to even go down. It’s a shock to me.”

Family said that the fire department had determined that the fire began as an accident in the kitchen. If you would like to help the family pay for Davion’s unexpected funeral costs, you can donate to the GoFundMe here.
