As August draws near, teachers, students and parents are headed to stores to prepare for the upcoming school year.
Before school starts, Tennesseans will have the opportunity to purchase eligible school supplies, clothing and electronics without having to pay sales tax starting Friday.
Here's what you need to know about Tennessee's tax-free weekend, including a deal from the Governor's Square Mall.
When is tax-free weekend in Tennessee?
Tennessee's tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 26, ending at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 28.
What's exempt
- Clothing $100 or less
- School and art supplies $100 or less
- Personal use computers, tablets and laptops $1,500 or less
What's not exempt
- Clothing that cost more than $100. Items sold together, such as shoes, cannot be spilt to stay under the maximum
- School and art supplies that cost more than $100. Items sold together cannot be spilt to stay under the maximum
- Printers
- Printer supplies
- Storage media like flash drives and compact discs
- Individually purchased software
- Jewelry, handbags, sports and recreational equipment
- Household appliances
Governor's Mall deal

At the Governor's Square Mall, shoppers can get a little something back.
From July 22 to Aug. 18, shoppers who spend at least $250 in any combination of mall stores can take their receipts to the Customer Service Center and receive a $25 mall gift card while supplies last.
"Almost no one likes to pay sales tax. That’s why Tennessee’s Sales Tax Holiday is so important to families who are about to start their back-to-school shopping," the press release said. "Governor’s Square Mall will help parents stretch their dollars even further with a special offer."
