The unthinkable has happened. Again. A gunman has taken multiple lives. The difference this time? It happened here, in Alameda. We are an island, both physically and psychologically. I spend a lot of time explaining to people that our focus is Alameda, and Alameda alone, so our coverage doesn’t usually include stories as horrific as this one.

APD reports person of interest in custody. Four family members were killed and others injured Wednesday night, July 10, in the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road in Alameda. The Alameda Post was at the scene Thursday morning, where Alameda Police Lieutenant Alan Kuboyama confirmed three adults and one child have died, and another child is in critical condition.

Last Friday, two men were arrested on charges following a joint investigation into drug trafficking in Adel, culminating in a search at their home. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the search took place on Friday, June 28, at the residence of 28-year-old Shyiem Marquon Banks and 36-year-old Roderick Dion Collins. Investigators discovered a substantial quantity of drugs, including 210 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 3.2 pounds of suspected marijuana, 13 grams of suspected alpha-PVP (Flakka/bath salts), over 90 suspected oxycodone tablets, and 2 firearms.
