    Buttermilk Fried Chicken Recipe

    If you are a huge fan of Southern-style fried chicken, this recipe for Southern fried chicken is going to be a home run winner for you.

    It's extra crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and truly the best fried chicken recipe.

    Really if you've never had a good fried chicken recipe, this one is super easy to make and has very basic ingredients so it is pretty much foolproof in flavor and comes out perfect every time you make it on any chicken parts!

    Simple Steps:

    • Marinate in the buttermilk marinade ingredients
    • Make the flour mixture
    • Dip the pieces in flour
    • Heat the oil
    • Fry until golden brown
    • Drain on paper towels
    • Enjoy!



    Buttermilk Fried Chicken Coating Marinade:

    • Chicken pieces of around 4 pounds ( any parts you prefer)
    • Soak the chicken for 3 hours in this mixture of buttermilk:
    • 2 cups buttermilk
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper or for no heat add paprika

    Roll Chicken into this mixture:

    • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup cornstarch
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder (this effect, results in extra-crispiness)
    • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
    • 2 teaspoons onion powder
    • Mix this is a deep pie plate and blend together evenly

    Frying Oil:

    Around 5 cups of oil (vegetable or peanut oil)

    Directions:

    1. Heat oil in a large chicken fryer frying pan over medium-high heat.
    2. Place the marinated chicken into the flour mixture and roll it to coat evenly.
    3. Shake excess off the chicken.
    4. Once the oil is heated, fry the chicken in batches of 4 pieces.
    5. Turn it occasionally and cook until it's brown and the juice runs clear.
    6. Use an instant read inserted into the thickest part of the meat it should read at 165 degrees internal temperature.
