    Apple Betty Cake Mix Dessert

This is the easiest fall dessert to get on the table in no time. You can actually use any flavored cake mix our favorite is spice cake mix. Yellow, white, and even a funfetti will work perfectly fine. The cake mix is sprinkled on top of the apples to give this a delicious topping while the apples excrete their juices to make a fruity delicious bottom.

Top this with some old-fashioned vanilla bean ice cream, and real whipped cream, and serve it warm to get the best experience on this semi-homemade delight! Pie filling can also be used if you want to cut time and corners to make this even quicker.

Mix and match cakes with pie fillings like cherry and white cake mix and a whole new dessert can be on your table. We also love blueberry with yellow cake mix. No matter what combination you choose, this dessert is so simple even the kids can make it. Back in the 1970s, the cake was called "Dump Cake" and although we added fresh apples, again just used a canned pie filling to make that retro recipe.

Apple Crumble Cake Mix Dessert (aka dump cake)

    • 8 small apples sliced, peeled, and cored
    • 1 spice cake mix
    • 1 1/2 sticks of melted butter
    • Topping for apples: (note if using a canned pie filling omit sugar and just add cinnamon)
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

    Directions:

In a 13 x 9-sized butter or oil-sprayed greased pan, add the apple slices. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar

Top with dry cake mix, Drizzle evenly with melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees preheated oven for around 35 minutes or until it starts to brown.

Serving Suggestions: whipped cream or topping, ice cream, caramel ice cream topping warmed and candied chopped pecans or walnuts.
