Kansas artist completes 108-foot wheat mural on grain elevator
Talented Kansas-based mural artist Mindy Allen has recently finished her largest project to date — a 108-foot-tall mural on a grain elevator in rural Inman. The mural project began nearly five weeks ago, timed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of turkey red winter wheat’s introduction to Kansas. Allen, whose business is called Mindy’s Murals, was determined to honor this milestone accurately. She even engaged the community by setting up a donation poll on Facebook, allowing locals to vote on the color of the combine featured in the mural.

CareArc board to discuss de-obligating nearly $90,000 in federal funding
CareArc’s Board of Directors has a number of standard reports on the agenda for its monthly meeting, along with several new items. Board members could de-obligate nearly $90,000 in federal grant funds, meaning canceling of reducing that amount because the funds won’t be needed as originally stated, and it could approve the “disposition of tangible property” as part of its action. The board agenda says the money was initially meant for remote monitoring purposes. The funding was initially granted through the H80 Health Center Program offering supplemental funds for behavioral health services.

USD 253 Emporia board members have contract matters, handbook readings and strategic planning ahead for their next regular meeting. Board members could approve salary adjustments for licensed professionals, administrators, classified and classified-exempt employees for the current school year. Army still targeting 2028 to finish cleanup at JoCo’s old Sunflower ammo plant site
Officials with the U.S. Army remain hopeful they can complete environmental cleanup at the old Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant site in De Soto by 2028. Whether that goal is met will be dependent, in large part, on whether federal funding continues to come through, Army officials said last Wednesday in a town hall in De Soto.

"It's a free event that happens Saturday, July 27th," said Matt Stafford with Convoy of Hope.
