ISP INVESTIGATING FATAL ATV ACCIDENT IN CLAY COUNTY
(EFFINGHAM) The investigation continues into a traffic accident that occurred at around 10:00 this past Friday night just over three miles east of Sailor Springs along Bucktown Lane just east of County Road 2175. The Illinois State Police report 12 year old Caide Weidner was thrown from a side-by-side ATV and with head injuries was transported to the Clay County Hospital in Flora and then transferred by helicopter to a St. Louis, Missouri hospital, where he passed away Sunday afternoon. The ISP was assisted on scene by Clay County Rescue personnel, the Clay City Fire Department, and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department. The funeral services for the North Clay Grade School student are pending in Louisville.

COVID-CANCER MEMORIAL RIDE THIS WEEKEND IN OLNEY
(OLNEY) All are invited to the “Covid-Cancer Memorial Ride” coming up tomorrow with the proceeds raised from the event going towards a scholarship for low-income families, in honor of Bayley and Bryson Walker, the 20 and 13 year old sister and brother that lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle along U.S. Route 50 in Clay County in late October 2023. Sign up for the Memorial Ride starts at 9:00 tomorrow morning at The Eagles in Olney with a $10 entry fee per vehicle. Leaving The Eagles then at 10:00, there will be four stops at Moonshine, Chasers, Dozer’s, and Johnny’s Picker Lounge, before returning to The Eagle in Olney for a fundraising dinner, auction, and live entertainment. ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING ATV ACCIDENT NEAR CLAY CITY
Illinois State Police Troop 9 continues to investigate an ATV (side by side) personal injury accident that occurred just a little after 10 O’Clock Friday night on 1150 North approximately ¼ mile east of 2175 North in Clay County and near Clay City. Preliminary information indicates a male juvenile fell from a Utility Vehicle (side by side) and was flown to a regional hospital with serious injuries. No further information is available. The male juvenile attends North Clay Grade School in Louisville.
Clay County Board Holds Meeting Tuesday
The Clay County Board held their regular meeting Tuesday at the Courthouse in Louisville. The Board heard reports from the Claims Committee and also heard from Tammy Byers with the Clay County Health Department, who reported an increase in funding. She also gave details on the FY2025 Budget, and asked the Board to approve re-appointments of Dr. Mike Klingler, Chris Boyd, Cathy Croy and Dr. Scott Suntrup to the Board of Health. The Board approved the appointments and budget.
Methamphetamine Delivery Investigation Leads to Two Arrests
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation and Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force recently conducted a narcotics investigation that led to the discovery of an illicit delivery of methamphetamine. Collaborating with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 Unit, the two agencies confronted the suspects at a residence in Louisville. During the operation, it was revealed that one individual had attempted to dispose of methamphetamine by flushing it into the sewer system. Law enforcement took swift action to secure the sewer system, preventing the narcotics from leaving the property. Subsequently, with the help of utility workers, the sewer lines were excavated, leading to the recovery of approximately nine ounces of methamphetamine with an estimated street value ranging from $20,000 to $25,000.
