BYERS, Texas — A man is in custody after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and leading police on a pursuit that ended in a four-hour standoff. On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a Clay County Sheriff Deputy conducted a traffic stop in Byers, Texas, on a vehicle displaying a fictitious license plate reading "Private No Driver's License Required." Billy Marvin Witt III was identified as the driver, according to a statement from the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
