Across Iowa this weekend we see a number of events that mash-up genres and activities. Some of these might seem strange on paper, but that’s what you thought when you tried that food pairing you swear by now. (Supposedly, for the adventurous out there, pickles and peanut butter is a treat.) The Power Glove-toting Heatbox brings his blend of comedy and beatboxing loops to The Olympic in Cedar Rapids. Experimental folk artist Jenny Parrott visits The Black Angel on Saturday, flexing their Omnichord and singer/songwriter skills. Platteville woman injured following accident with a semi
On Thursday just after 12 PM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a semi versus car crash on Highway 151 at the intersection with Hill Climb Road in Paris Township. After investigation, it was found that 77-year-old Elaine Shanley of Platteville, was driving eastbound on Hill Climb Road and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 151. Shanley entered Highway 151 directly into the path of a southbound semi tractor and trailer being operated by 59-year-old Henry Chamberlain of Fort Atkinson. Chamberlain braked and swerved, but could not avoid a collision with Shanley’s vehicle. Shanley’s vehicle received severe damage and the semi sustained moderate damage, both were towed. The semi operator was not injured in the crash. Shanley was transported via ambulance to Southwest Health Center in Platteville and was later transferred to a Madison area Hospital for further treatment of possible serious injuries. This crash remains under investigation. Dickeyville EMS, the Dickeyville Fire Department, Jamestown Fire Department, Jamestown First Responders, the Dickevyille Police Department, the Cuba City Police Department, the Grant County Highway Department, Donnie’s Tire and Auto, and Kieler Service Center assisted at the scene.
Platteville man sentenced for drug charges
A Platteville man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for drug-related offenses. 30-year-old Brian Jack recently received the sentence from Grant County Circuit Court after being found guilty at trial of maintaining a drug trafficking place, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and 20 counts of felony bail jumping. The charges relate to a search warrant executed on a Platteville residence in February. Jack was one of three men arrested after authorities said they located drugs and drug paraphernalia in the home. 32-year-old Danny Mabra of Platteville, previously was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine for his role in the incident. 56-yeear-old Derrick Jack of Platteville, was sentenced to one year in jail after pleading no contest to charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of THC.

Fast-Growing National Burger Chain Coming to Eastern Iowa

KCRG reports that Atlanta-based cheeseburger chain Smalls Sliders is planning multiple locations in Eastern Iowa, prioritizing the cities of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Burlington.
