Since last October, BE&K Building Group has obtained 16 building permits for the $4.1 billion plant it will build for insulin maker Novo Nordisk.

But the Morrisville design-build and construction-management firm has been at work on the project for much longer.

The company has dedicated more than two years of detailed preparation to the endeavor, providing estimates, schedules and procurement strategies, the company said in a news release. The ambitious project will involve the construction of 10 or more buildings for a total of more than 1.4 million square feet.

BE&K will directly perform much of the work and will serve as the construction manager for the rest, overseeing a project that will span 56 acres. The company will gradually complete construction between 2027 and 2029, it said.

“We are honored to partner with Novo Nordisk on this transformative project,” said Frank Holley, CEO of BE&K. “Our team’s extensive preparation and dedication to excellence and our client’s success reflect our commitment to delivering world-class facilities that produce health care solutions benefiting the global population.”

“This expansion,” he added, “will not only bolster Novo Nordisk’s manufacturing capabilities but will also contribute significantly to the local community and economy in North Carolina’s Triangle region.

“We look forward to a successful collaboration with Novo Nordisk and the positive impact this project will bring.”

A 55-year-old company, BE&K has been part of the Triangle since 1982.
