Moore crowned 2024 Page County Fair Queen
(Clarinda) -- One of Clarinda's own was crowned royalty at the Page County Fair this week. Addison Moore was crowned the 2024 Page County Fair Queen during coronation ceremonies on Tuesday. Entering her senior year at Clarinda High School, Moore is involved in cross country, track, and softball, along with a plethora of other extracurriculars, including 4-H and student council. Moore tells KMA News she was honored and surprised to hear her name called for fair queen.

Supporters regroup for second Clarinda PPEL vote
(Clarinda) -- Despite the narrow rejection of a special referendum earlier this year, Clarinda school officials say major infrastructure needs remain. Earlier this month, the Clarinda School Board voted to place a second voted physical plant and equipment levy referendum on a special election ballot September 10th. Voters rejected an earlier PPEL referendum by only six votes in March. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Thursday morning, Clarinda School Superintendent Jeff Privia says the first referendum's close defeat prompted the board to try it again.

Sidney Rodeo rolls into town for 101st time
(Sidney) -- A tradition more than a century long returns to Sidney next week. The 101st Annual Sidney Iowa Rodeo takes place July 30th through August 3rd at the rodeo grounds on the west side of Sidney. From mutton busting to bullfighting, the rodeo brings an array of family-friendly fun. Jann and Lyle Tackett joined the KMA "Morning Show" recently to preview this year's rendition. Audubon gets third consecutive walk-off to advance to first-ever State Championship game
(Fort Dodge) – For the third-straight game and second time at the State Tournament, the Audubon Wheelers came up with a walk-off hit to win. This time it was senior Michelle Brooks who laced a two-run double down the right field line to score the tying and winning runs in a 3-2 State Semifinal win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
Fired Council Bluffs police officer’s lawsuit accuses city of retaliation, discrimination
(Council Bluffs) A former Council Bluffs police officer is suing the city in federal court, alleging gender discrimination and retaliation. Miranda Adams, 36, who began working for the Council Bluffs Police Department in 2012, alleges she was fired in 2023 after she filed a complaint of discrimination and harassment with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Circus joins Essex Labor Day schedule
(Essex) -- This year's Essex Labor Day Celebration is a circus--literally. For the second time in three years, the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus joins the annual celebration's lineup of activities. Performances are slated for Friday, August 30th at 5 and 7:30 p.m. at the Essex High School track/field along Highway 48. Allbaugh resigns from Clarinda council
(Clarinda) -- One of the newer faces to Clarinda government is stepping down from the city council. Councilman Mike Allbaugh announced his resignation from the Clarinda City Council during Wednesday evening's regular meeting. One of the fresher faces on the council, Allbaugh was elected as a write-in candidate during last November's election.
