CLEARFIELD, Pa. (WTAJ) – Central Pennsylvania high school students have a chance to design and paint snowplows on PennDOT trucks as part of an annual safety awareness program.
The “Paint the Plow” program invites local high school students to use the 2024 theme ‘Use your reason when it’s freezin’ and creatively encourage drivers to practice safe behavior while driving in the winter.
The program started in parts of Pennsylvania in 2015 and has expanded to most counties throughout the state.

In the District 2 region – counties of Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter – students in both public and private high schools can register to participate. Students must have high school officials complete and submit an application to the District 2 regional coordinator, Steve Harmic, at sharmic@pa.gov or 70 PennDOT Drive, Clearfield PA, 16830.
Plows will be judged based on creativity and use of the winter theme. The public can also vote and select a ‘Fan Favorite’ winner through an online voting system in December.
