Rasa Poorman
April 6, 1964 - June 30, 2024. A resident of Leelanau County, Rasa Poorman passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30,2024 at her Home in Maple City, Michigan after a three and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. She passed peacefully with her husband at her side along with a small group of family and friends.

Marilyn Russa (Hadley) Dickinson
Marilyn Russa (Hadley) Dickinson, 91, of Suttons Bay, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born September 20, 1932, in Rensselaer, Indiana, the middle daughter of Russell Vernon Hadley and Irene (Whitsel) Hadley. On July 2, 1955, in Rensselaer, Indiana she married Charles E. Dickinson, her dance partner through life for 62 years.

The sixth Omena Mayoral Election is now underway, a uniquely Leelanau tradition to elect a local pet as mayor that began in 2009. This is the 6th election to be held, and voting for the 18 candidates runs through Thursday, July 18 at 5 pm. Elmira man killed in motorcycle crash
CHARLEVOIX COUNTY - On July 6 at 9:48 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded to a motorcycle crash involving two other vehicles on Thumb Lake Road near Springbrook Road in Boyne Valley Township. The rider of the motorcycle, a 40-year-old man from Elmira, was taken to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey where he later died from his injuries, troopers said. Before the crash, a trooper was on a traffic stop in Emmet County when he observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed, troopers said. An officer from Petoskey Department of Public Safety located the motorcycle on US-131 and attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcycle fled traveling approximately 110 mph, troopers said. The officer did not pursue. Approximately 25 minutes later, a motorcycle and rider matching the description of the fleeing one was reported as being in a crash on Thumb Lake Road, troopers said.
