Marilyn Russa (Hadley) Dickinson, 91, of Suttons Bay, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born September 20, 1932, in Rensselaer, Indiana, the middle daughter of Russell Vernon Hadley and Irene (Whitsel) Hadley. On July 2, 1955, in Rensselaer, Indiana she married Charles E. Dickinson, her dance partner through life for 62 years.

Elmira man killed in motorcycle crash
CHARLEVOIX COUNTY - On July 6 at 9:48 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post responded to a motorcycle crash involving two other vehicles on Thumb Lake Road near Springbrook Road in Boyne Valley Township. The rider of the motorcycle, a 40-year-old man from Elmira, was taken to McLaren Hospital in Petoskey where he later died from his injuries, troopers said. Before the crash, a trooper was on a traffic stop in Emmet County when he observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed, troopers said. An officer from Petoskey Department of Public Safety located the motorcycle on US-131 and attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcycle fled traveling approximately 110 mph, troopers said. The officer did not pursue. Approximately 25 minutes later, a motorcycle and rider matching the description of the fleeing one was reported as being in a crash on Thumb Lake Road, troopers said.

Phase 2 of road construction starts in Traverse City
TRAVERSE CITY — With Independence Day and the National Cherry Festival over, phase two of the US-31 Grandview Parkway construction has begun. Paesana’s Pizza, located near the intersection of Grandview Parkway and East Front Street, is already seeing a difference in foot traffic. “The consistency I think has slowed down a little bit. But I think with what we’ve built over the 42 years, we saw the loyal customers find a way to get here,” said Paesana’s manager Jaiven Thompson. “I think business-wise, obviously the sooner that’s over, the better.” For the first week of construction, the two southbound lanes of Grandview Parkway from East Front Street to Division Street and the East Front Street intersection will be closed. There will be a detour for pedestrians at two different crosswalks as construction progresses.
