    End-of-year items to remember

CLEMMONS — The end of the school year is in sight, which means graduation is right around the corner and seniors are spending their final weeks at West Forsyth. Despite it all being close at hand, seniors can’t fully check out yet. Here are some end-of-year items and events that seniors should make sure they’re prepared for.

    Awards Day

Details have already been widely shared about this event being held for seniors on Friday, May 24, but there are still a few good reminders. Seniors should report to the football field at 8 a.m. for a class photo, after which they will then be escorted to the Simpson Gym for the remainder of the ceremony. The dress code is the same as graduation, only seniors do not have to wear their caps.

    Yearbooks

This is a note for everyone, but especially seniors who want to commemorate their final year at West. Make sure to go and purchase a yearbook once they arrive if you haven’t already ordered one. They will be $60, and they always sell out fast, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for when they go on sale.

    Debts

Many people often forget that they have money owed to the school for things like club dues or school lunch. These debts must be paid off in order for seniors to graduate. Contact your counselor or the central office to figure out if you have any debt and how to pay it off.

    Graduation rehearsal

Graduation rehearsal is set to be held the night before graduation, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. Graduates should be at the LJVM Coliseum by 6 p.m. There are no formal dress code requirements for graduation rehearsal, but the entire ceremony will be roughly run through.

    Graduation

Graduation is Saturday, June 8, at 8 a.m. Graduates are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 a.m., but by 7 a.m. at the latest. Be prepared to go through some security screening when you arrive. Graduates will then be lined up in alphabetical order before the ceremony begins. Graduates must have their gown zipped up for the entirety of the ceremony and may decorate their caps, but only with 2D, school-appropriate decorations. Any decorations deemed to be inappropriate will result in the graduate having to purchase a new one for $10 in order to walk at graduation.

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost finished already, seniors. Let’s do our best to be as prepared as we can be for these next few weeks.
