ACC Disappointed in Clemson, What a Joke

The Atlantic Coast Conference “is disappointed in Clemson University’s lack of cooperation.”

Senior Associate Commissioner for Football Michael Strickland wrote that in his email to Clemson Athletic Director Graham Neff on May 7, 2024.

Why is Strickland disappointed in Clemson?

    Why was Clemson not corroborating?

The answer. Clemson did not want to move this year’s Nov. 30 home game against rival South Carolina to “Black Friday” on Nov. 29.

    Shame on you Clemson.

How dare you keep your traditional rivalry game where it is.

How dare you think about your community that thrives off a football weekend in Clemson, especially when your biggest rival is coming to town.

How dare you Clemson think of your student body, many of which live in other states and would not have time to fly or drive back to school after spending Thanksgiving Day with your family.

How dare you Clemson think of your alumni, allowing them to have the ability to stay home on Thanksgiving Day and spend it with their families, instead of forcing them to come into town and speed Thanksgiving at a hotel.

How dare you Clemson think about the inconvenience it is to ask your fans to drive, in some cases three to four hours, to come to a football game the day after Thanksgiving. Clemson is not a hard place to get to at all.

How dare you be so selfish Clemson.

How dare you not help ESPN, so they can have one of their SEC games on Saturday instead of having to deal with the lowly Gamecocks and that team from the ACC who gets in their way in the College Football Playoff.

How dare you not help the SEC out when they were so willing to help you out in 2020, the COVID season, so the nation’s second longest continuously played rivalry did not end at 111 consecutive years. How dare you not repay the SEC for that favor.

How dare you not give in and bow to Greg Sankey and the mighty SEC, like Commissioner Jim Phillips and the ACC does every chance they get.

How dare you not move your non-conference game when the bylaws clearly state the league cannot insert itself into any decisions when it comes to non-conference contest.

Did you not see the concessions the conference went around your back and tried to make so the SEC could have its way?

Did you not see that the ACC worked out a deal with South Carolina, who was willing to move a future game with you to “Black Friday”, though the conference is not supposed to talk with the Gamecocks.

What about them screwing NC State out of possible Labor Day Night against you in 2027. I am sure the good people in Raleigh, N.C., were happy to learn about that one?

Shame on you Clemson. The ACC worked hard to secure these concessions, when your fellow ACC members have done so in the past with lesser rivalry games that fewer people care about.

The ACC is disappointed in you.

Now it knows how you have felt for the majority of last 70 years being a member of this conference.
