Since 4-star Ju Ju Preston announced his commitment to Clemson back in December, the Tigers have looking to add at least one more wideout to the 2025 class.
Coming out of the spring, the top two targets were 4-stars Cortez Mills and Samari Reed. They were the only two wide receivers on hand for Clemson’s big official visit weekend in early June. However, 4-star Dillon Alfred was also on the radar, despite having committed to Ole Miss in the spring.
Alfred took an unofficial to Clemson in the spring, then returned last month to work out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp. It was the only camp he attended all summer, as it was an offer from the Tigers that he was looking to secure. While it did not come immediately, it would eventually come, with Alfred going public with the offer on June 24, about half an hour after he publicly decommitted from Ole Miss.
“I love that coaching staff over there,” Alfred told The Clemson Insider recently. “The facility, the campus. I love everything about Clemson. The history they have there. Again, I love the coaches there, and I love the way they treat their players.”
On Monday, Mills committed to Oklahoma, and on Thursday Reed announced a verbal pledge to Ole Miss. That leaves Alfred, who is set to return to campus on July 25 for the All-In Cookout.
Rivals ranks the 5-foot-11 wideout inside the Top 250 overall and as one of the better players in the state of Alabama. If the Tigers can add Alfred to the class that already features Preston, that would give them two speedsters at the position, and soften the blow from missing on Mills.
