Is Hopkins Hall of Fame-Bound?

Is DeAndre Hopkins headed for the Hall of Fame after his playing days are over?

The former Clemson star has put together a very strong NFL resume over his longtime career with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and currently the Tennessee Titans.

A five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, the 32-year-old Hopkins isn’t done yet as he enters his second season with the Titans in 2024. But is he a Hall of Famer after he eventually decides to hang up his cleats?

CBS Sports weighed in on that recently , with a panel of nine NFL writers/analysts assessing 12 current players who “have compelling cases but aren’t currently considered Hall of Fame locks.”

The panel voted “yes” or “no” for the Hall of Fame on those 12 players, one of them being Hopkins. In order to get tabbed as a future Hall of Famer by the panel, a player had to get a majority of the votes, with five being the minimum.

Despite his accomplishments, Hopkins just missed that tally, receiving only four votes.

“Hopkins would likely be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame if not for injuries and a suspension during the 2021 and ’22 seasons,” the CBS Sports article stated. “At this point, Hopkins’ career stats are very similar to the ones compiled by former Steelers great Hines Ward, who is still waiting for his call to Canton.”

While some may not feel Hopkins’ career is currently Hall of Fame-caliber, what he has done on the field is highly impressive nonetheless.

A first-round pick of the Houston Texans back in 2013, Hopkins has amassed 928 catches for 12,355 yards and 78 touchdowns in his pro career to date.

Hopkins signed a two-year deal with the Titans last offseason and concluded his first campaign in Tennessee with the seventh 1,000-plus-yard season of his career (75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns).
