Cool Feature on Former Tiger, NFL Vet Turned Med Student

Cool feature on a former Clemson standout and NFL kicker.

Chandler Catanzaro originally walked on at Clemson before becoming the Tigers’ starting kicker as a freshman in 2010. He went on to be a three-time All-ACC selection and two-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist while making 81.7 percent of his career field-goal attempts, hitting 203-of-207 career PATs and scoring 404 points in 53 career games.

Following his time as a Tiger, Catanzaro moved on to the NFL, where he saw action in 77 games across stints with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2014-18. He made 83.8 percent of his career field-goal tries, and as a member of the Buccaneers in 2018, he kicked a game-winning, 59-yard field goal against the Cleveland Browns to set the NFL record for the longest field goal in overtime.

Fast forward to the present, and Catanzaro is pursuing a different profession away from the field – he is now a 33-year-old medical student in his second year at MUSC.
