Clemson Getting 'Relentless, Physical' Player in Bryce Davis

GREENSBORO, N.C.- While talent is always a crucial part of the recruiting process at Clemson, so is finding players that are the right cultural fit.

Dabo Swinney has always placed a premium on character and 4-star DE Bryce Davis, the latest addition to the 2025 recruiting class , is just one more example of the coaching staff getting it right.

Darryl Brown has gotten to know Davis extremely well while coaching him at Grimsley High School and the head coach raves about the elite-level talents abilities on the field, including how versatile he has proven to be.

“They’re getting a phenomenal young man, first of all,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “Great football player, even better person. Bryce is relentless, a very physical player. Has the ability to play hand down or on the edge. Can play in space. Just a big, long athletic guy that is capable of doing a lot of things. Gives you a lot of flexibility.”

After a lengthy recruitment that saw Davis become the Tigers’ first defensive end offer last summer, he committed to Clemson on Saturday, choosing the Swinney’s program over Georgia, Duke and South Carolina.

Brown has been right by the Davis family’s side throughout much of his recruitment and has seen exactly how much thought went into the decision to choose Clemson.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, he had four great schools to choose from,” Brown said. “They did what they needed to do, as far as visiting everywhere. Spent a lot of time in prayer making sure they felt really convicted in that Clemson was the right place for them and I know they feel that way and I feel that they made a great choice.”

Davis ranks as high as No. 51 overall and No. 3 among all edge rushers. His addition now gives the Tigers four defensive linemen that rank inside the Top 75, giving Clemson arguably one of the most talented groups in the country.

And the way Brown sees it, when it comes to that cultural fit Clemson is always looking for, the Tigers knocked this one out of the park.

“Again, phenomenal player and even better person,” Brown said. “Takes care of his business, teammates love him, his teachers love him. Never an issue in any manner whatsoever. A leader within our football program. Just always doing the right things to the best of his ability. You can coach him and he is just a tireless worker. Everything you’d want in a guy coming into your program. That’s what you’re getting in Bryce Davis.”
