CLEMSON — It is hard to say who stood out the most and who did not from Clemson Football’s annual weigh-in day on Wednesday.

The annual event is the official start of fall camp for the Tigers, who were picked to finish No. 2 in the ACC Media Preseason Poll which was released on Wednesday as well. Clemson begins practice for the upcoming season on Thursday at the Allen Reeves Football Complex.

Who were the winners and losers from the Tigers’ weigh-in.

The biggest winners in my mind come from the offensive line. It’s obvious new offensive line coach Matt Luke had a plan to get his guys in better shape. It appears, by looking at the numbers, he wants a smaller and faster group of offensive linemen.

Of the linemen who will likely be in the rotation this fall, six got smaller, including left guard Marcus Tate, who lost nine pounds. Tate went from 325 in the spring to 316 as he reported to camp.

Ian Reed dropped 18 pounds (325-297), while reserve center Harris Sewell dropped seven pounds (315-308) and starting left tackle Tristin Leigh went from 315 to 309. Right guard Walker Parks lost six pounds (310-304).

Right tackle Blake Miller checked in at 314, up four pounds from the spring.

On the defensive line, especially at defensive end, it was about getting a little bigger and stronger. Redshirt sophomore Jahiem Lawson did that, as he went from 240 pounds to 251.

Lawson’s defensive end mate, Cade Denhoff, also gained some weight. He added four pounds and checked in at 259. T.J. Parker, the most experienced defensive end on the roster, checked in at 264 pounds, 11 pounds more than he was in the spring.

Some thought Peter Woods might be losing weight now that he moved out to defensive end. However, that was not the case as the sophomore reported to camp at 319 pounds, four pounds heavier than he was in the spring.

Other notables on the defensive line, Tre Williams gained nine pounds (305-314), DeMonte Capehart lost four pounds (320-316), Vic Burley gained 17 pounds (315-332), Stephiylan Greene gained 10 pounds (280-290), Caden Story dropped six pounds (280-274) and A.J. Hoffler gained five pounds (250-255).

On the offensive side, quarterback Cade Klubnik added some weight. He reported five pounds heavier (205-210), while fellow QB Trent Pearman gained eight pounds (190-198).

At running back, Phil Mafah lost two pounds (230-228), while Keith Adams, Jr check in at 219, up four pounds. Jay Haynes was the biggest mover in the running back room. He jumped up 15 pounds from 185 to 200.

Freshman back David Eziomume reported at 213, up three pounds. Jarvis Green was 206, up from 200 pounds.

The biggest news at wide receiver was Bryant Wesco. The true freshman was 170 pounds in the spring. On Wednesday, he checked in at 185 pounds. By the way, fellow freshman wideout T.J Moore reported at 198 pounds.

At tight end Jake Briningstool gained 13 pounds, as he reported at 243 pounds. Josh Sapp, on the other hand, went the opposite direction. Sapp reported to camp at 223 pounds, a loss of 12 pounds from the spring.
