The 29-year-old made a sliding grab to his right, away from his glove hand, that likely would’ve at least put runners on second and third with nobody out if it had dropped.</p><p>Instead, the play kept Gleyber Torres at first and gave Matthew Boyd an out to work with. The quickness prevented the runner at third from advancing.</p><p>This became even more impactful when Torres lined out to Steven Kwan in left field. Boyd, who signed a one-year, $740,000 contract with the Guardians on June 27, exited after tossing five innings and 75 pitches, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks while fanning four batters. With a hearty swing, Manzardo gave the Guardians their first lead of the ALCS with his first career postseason blast, a two-run shot to right.</p><p>Manzardo is one of just two players to homer off Clarke Schmidt’s sinker this season, joining Brent Rooker of the Athletics. Schmidt, to that point including the postseason, had thrown 315 sinkers.</p><h2>Scoring with runners on</h2><p>After the first inning of Game 3 of the ALCS, the Yankees had gone just 2 for 18 (.111) with runners in scoring position, and the Guardians were just 1 for 14 (.071) in the series.</p><p>The Guardians started to make progress in that category in the sixth inning. The 23-year-old’s blast came off his bat at 109 mph and extended the game to the 10th inning.</p><p>Noel is the first rookie to hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning or later of a postseason game.</p><h2>Platinum Glove Giménez</h2><p>Andrés Giménez became the first second baseman to win a Platinum Glove in 2023, joining Francisco Lindor (2016) as the only Cleveland player to win the award.
