CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians have promoted infielder Jose Tena and reliever Darren McCaughan from AAA-Columbus. To make room for both, the club optioned pitcher Xzavion Curry to Columbus and placed outfielder Will Brennan on the 10-day injured list.

Tena, 23, made his debut with the team in 2023, playing in 18 games last season. He took a step forward in 2024 at the plate, hitting .293 with 14 home runs and .893 OPS with Columbus.

Curry has struggled with the Guardians this season, allowing 11 runs, ten earned, in 15.2 innings. He has a 5.74 ERA with nine strikeouts in four games, three of which were starts.

In addition to those moves, the team reportedly agreed to a deal with left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The deal will be a major league deal, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The deal is pending a physical.

Boyd, 33, is almost 12 months off of Tommy John surgery that he underwent last season. Prior to the injury, he had a 5-5 record with the Detroit Tigers, with a 5.45 ERA, 73 strikeouts and 25 walks in 71 innings across 15 starts in 2023.

The Guardians have yet to announce the move, and will need to make a roster move on the 40-man roster if it is a major league contract.
