Fatal shooting victim found in street; arrest made

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Federal and local authorities on Friday morning arrested a suspect in the June 18 murder of a 38-year-old man who was found on a Cleveland street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and Cleveland police arrested Jasmine Spencer, 27, of Cleveland, at an apartment along West 33rd Street, according to a news release. She is charged with aggravated murder in the shooting death of 38-year-old Dontez Lilly.

Lilly on June 18 was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds in the 3200 block of Archwood Avenue, which is near that apartment building, according to the release. Police believe Lilly was arguing with someone before he was shot, according to the release.

Lilly was transported to a hospital, where he died. Police recovered numerous shell casings from the scene.

“The Cleveland Division of Police is dedicated to ensuring that victims and their families see justice by the investigations they do,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. “Our task force maintains a strong partnership to work the fugitive cases and arrest the suspects from their investigations.”

Spencer is currently jailed. No future court dates have been set.
